Rubens Barrichello started his Formula One career in 1993 with Jordan. His season was spoiled by a string of technical failures but at the Japanese his car was working well and Barrichello put in a strong performance to finish 5th and claim his first points of his Formula One career.

In 1994 Barrichello his season got off to a terrific start when he scored at the at his home race in Brazil and claiming his first Podium at the Pacific Grand Prix but, disaster stuck at the San Marino Grand Prix. During Fridays practice session Rubens had a horrifying accident where he nearly chocked death on his own blood after breaking his nose. Luckily, for Rubens, Professor Sid Watkins was meters away from the scene of the accident. But, there were others who were not as lucky as Barrichello. Roland Ratzenberger and fellow countryman; Ayrton Senna were Killed that weekend. Barrichello now had to carry the hopes of Brazil. He had a few more solid points scoring finishes that year and he had his first pole position at the Belgium Grand Prix.

Barrichellos 1995 season was hampered by poor reliability but at the Canadian Grand Prix when his rivals were suffering with technical difficulties his Jordans kept going and Barrichello finished second. 1996 was another poor season for Barrichello. The Jordan was not reliable and when it was, he could only scrap over the low points paying positions.

In 1997 Barrichello moved to the new team on the grid; Stewart. His season was plagued by retirements but at the Monaco Grand Prix while everyone else was spin off the track Barrichello kept it on the track and he finished third but he was later upgraded to second because of Michael Schumacher being disqualified from the championship. 1998 was a rerun of 1997 but without the podium. The reliability problem had not improved; Barrichello only finished 6 out of the 16 rounds in the championship. In 1999 Stewart finally got its act together, it was no longer swamped with retirements. They managed to get Rubens on the podium on his own credit. Things started to look a lot brighter for the cheery Brazilian, when he announced that he was moving to Ferrari at the end of the season.

Life at Ferrari began with a perfect start for Barrichello, by finishing second in his debut for the team. Barrichello managed to win his long a waited maiden victory at the German Grand Prix. When the Brazilian national anthem was playing he broke down in tears on the top step of the podium.

In 2001 life at the Ferrari started to turn a bit sour due to the fact that Ferrari ordering him to move over to let Michael Schumacher through. The following year the same thing happen at the exact same track but, this time he had had be on pole and he had led for the majority of the race, Rubens was order to hand the victory over to his teammate, just yards from the finishing line. It caused an outrage in the media. This one event was the main reason why the rule and regulation were changed the following year.

2003 was a very successful season for the Brazilian. He won the British Grand Prix and secured Ferraris fifth consecutive constructors championship victory by winning the Japanese Grand Prix. 2004 was another successful season with him taking victories at the Italian Grand Prix and the Chinese Grand Prix.

2005 so far has been a difficult season for the Brazilian, his Ferrari is uncompetitive and there has been much speculation as to whether Barrichello and Ferrari will part company sooner than expected, if he leaves Ferrari next season there are plenty of teams that are willing to have him, BAR seam the favourite at the minute.
